WHAT IS TEDx? In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our TEDx event is called TEDxUWCMaastricht, where x = independently organized TED event. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, in which TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. |

WHY UNMUTE? This year’s theme for TEDxUWCMaastricht is Unmute. In this time of uncertainty, we have felt trapped in deafening silence, grappling with a new sense of normalcy and reconfiguring the ways in which we operate. Now more than ever, we are being conditioned to recognise the true extent of our interdependence and the significance of cooperation at many different scales, where thus far, we had basked in the dangers of siloed living. Yet, it has never been more paramount for us to take control of our own destinies and take the reins of our lives and speak out. |
TEDxUWCMaastricht 2021: Unmute is a conference organised and led by a team of curiosity-driven students of UWC Maastricht, who, together with their speakers, seek to share their love for learning and sharing ideas with each and every person, no matter what they look like or where they come from. We, the team of TEDxUWCMaastricht, wish you welcome to our virtual live event of 2021 in which speakers from all over the world will share a moment in which they chose to unmute themselves, breaking the silence and raising their voice to speak up.

Yustine Alvares
Yustine Alvares is a successful entrepreneur and runs multiple businesses and worked for more than 14 years in Asia, Europe, and South America. She supports other women to grow, inspire to speak up and be more visible in her role as a personal branding strategist. As co-founder of Dark Blue International she focuses on marketing, personal & business branding, design and (international) growth.

Jules Overes
Jules Overes is a double degree master student in international management/CEMS with a focus on organisational change. his passion lies in developing individuals and organisations alike, in order for them to become their best version. He has founded a start-up called Evolore together with a good friend of his. Evolore is focussed on providing training and coaching.

Erik Schoppen
Erik Schoppen works as a neuroscience researcher at the University of Groningen (Behavioral and Social Sciences, Cognitive Neuroscience, Experimental Psychology) and a master in virtual media and technology (Advanced Studies in New Media), and studies the effects of new technologies on our brain.
